Zoom for Beginners

Whether you just signed up for your own Zoom account or you have been invited to join a meeting, or webinar, read this quick start guide for a summary of your next steps and click the embedded links to learn more.

Before joining a Zoom meeting or webinar on a computer or mobile device, we recommend that you download the Zoom app. Otherwise, you will be prompted to download and install Zoom when you click a join link.

Each meeting has a unique 9, 10, or 11-digit number called a meeting ID that will be required to join a Zoom meeting

Step by step

  1. Open the Zoom mobile app.
  2. Join a meeting using one of these methods:
    • Tap Join a Meeting if you want to join without signing in.

    • Sign in to Zoom then tap Join.

  3. Enter the meeting ID number and your display name.
  4. Select if you would like to connect audio and/or video and tap Join Meeting.

  1. To join a Zoom meeting or webinar, from your Windows or Mac computer, you will need to install the Zoom desktop client application.

  2. After launching Zoom, click Join a Meeting to join a meeting without signing in.

  3. Enter the meeting ID number and your display name.Each meeting has a unique 9, 10, or 11-digit number called a meeting ID that will be required to join a Zoom meeting. This number can be found in the invite to the meeting or webinar.
  4. Select if you would like to connect audio and/or video and click Join.

You can join a Zoom meeting or webinar from your favorite browser e.g. Chrome, Safari, etc, using computer audio. Follow the steps:

  1. Open your browser.
  2. Go to join.zoom.us.
  3. Enter your meeting ID provided by the host/organizer.
  4. Click Join.
    If this is your first me joining from Google Chrome, you will be asked to open the Zoom client to join the meeting.Click Open Zoom Meetings (PC) or Open zoom.us (Mac).

    If you are using Safari, when asked if you want to open zoom.us, click Allow. Click Open Zoom Meetings (PC) or Open zoom.us (Mac).

You can join a Zoom meeting or webinar from an email or calendar invita on.

The invitation email contains all the necessary details for your convenience e.g. call-in number, meeting ID, and meeting link.

  1. Click the link in your email or calendar
    invitation.

Depending on your default web browser, you may be prompted to open/allow Zoom.

  1. On your phone, dial the teleconferencing number provided in your invite.
  2. Enter the meeting ID number when prompted using your dialpad.

Note: If you have already joined the meeting via computer, you will have the op on to enter your 2-digit participant ID to be associated with your computer. If you have not joined on your computer, simply press # again when prompted to enter in your participant ID.
