Audiology
Hearing loss can be frustrating. It can make you feel lonely and keep you from doing the things you once loved. At Leon, you won’t feel alone. The contracted team of audiologists will help you hear better so you can live easier, join in conversations and do the things you enjoy.
The expert team includes PhD trained audiologists, a board-certified hearing instrument specialist and an audiology assistant. The expert team offers evaluations and lasting solutions for better hearing.
You can count on Leon to talk you through every step to make sure you get the hearing treatment that’s right for you and your lifestyle. We offer you personalized care along with the white-glove service that Leon is known for.
Conditions We Treat
The audiologists are trained to diagnose and treat the three types of hearing loss:
- Hearing loss in the middle ear, most commonly caused by infection or otosclerosis (thickening of the bones called ossicles).
- Hearing loss in the inner ear caused by aging or being exposed to loud noise.
- A combination of conductive and sensorineural hearing loss.
Diagnostic Tests and Treatment Options
We offer on-site diagnostic testing for hearing problems. These tests include:
- Audiometry to measure the softest sound you can hear at different frequencies
- Speech audiometry to measure how well you process speech information
- Tympanometry to evaluate how well your middle ear functions
Some types of hearing loss need to be treated by an otolaryngologist (an ear, nose and throat specialist, also called an ENT). If you need specialized treatment from an ENT, we will work with the otolaryngology team at Leon to make your appointment.
Hearing Aid Devices
If you’re diagnosed with sensorineural hearing loss (hearing loss related to aging or being exposed to noise) you may need a hearing aid device. The team at Leon will schedule you for a hearing aid evaluation, talk with you about hearing loss and discuss your hearing aid choices. If the hearing aid you choose requires an impression (mold) of your ear, we’ll do that impression on-site at your evaluation.
The team at Leon will order your hearing aid for you and schedule your fitting appointment. During your fitting, the experts will program your hearing aid and teach you how to use it. If you need any other hearing aid adjustments or training, we’re happy to help.
Testing for Vertigo and Balance Problems
At Leon, we offer videonystagmography (VNG). This test is used to learn the cause of dizziness or balance problems. VNG can tell us if you have a type of vertigo (a spinning sensation) caused by small particles that have shifted inside your ear.
If you’re diagnosed with this type of vertigo, the audiologists will refer you to Leon’s physical therapy team. This team has physical therapists and physical therapy assistants who are certified in vestibular rehabilitation therapy, which is used to treat vertigo.
One Place for Care
You can enjoy seamless care at Leon Medical Centers.
Our audiology team, specialists and diagnostics department share the same electronic health record. This helps our team work better together on your plan of care. You can also access your health record if you need care while traveling to another city, state or country.
If you need to see other specialists, we’ll coordinate those appointments and if you choose, we can drive you there for free.
